Job Summary/Definition: The primary responsibilities of this role will be to manage surplus inventory of Bedford County Government. The employee will perform clerical and administrative support tasks including tracking, receiving, stocking and storing equipment and various inventory deemed surplus by the Bedford County Finance Committee.

Equipment/Location: The employee will operate a computer, copier, and other modern office equipment. Job requires the ability to use a ladder and a work dolly. Work will be indoors and outdoors.

Work Environment: Indoor office/ warehouse setting; occasionally drives to off-site county work related locations. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.

Physical Demands: This job may require lifting of office supplies that exceed 20 pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 60 pound and/or walking on rough surfaces routinely and/or physical exertion such as climbing ladders. Other physical demands may include sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing. Employee will also be exposed to sitting at a desk.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensures adherence to county and state guidelines for acquisition, distribution, maintenance, and disposition of inventory deemed surplus and associated records
  • Assists in creating, revising, or implementing procedures and guidelines for storage, inventory control, material management, safety, security or basic accounting practices
  • Receives, unloads, unpacks, shelves, distributes, delivers, and tracks incoming surplus items. May assist with moving and loading of surplus property.
  • Compares and verifies incoming surplus with correct supporting documentation
  • Assists with and ensures inventory records are accurately maintained.
  • Creates and maintains records, logs, etc. of surplus property. Performs data entry using a purchasing or/or inventory control system. .May compile data for inventory reports.
  • Assists and may coordinate and participate in physical surplus inventory counts. Reconciles counts with inventory records.
  • Maintains storage and organization of inventory within the surplus facility to ensure safety and security compliance and guidelines.
  • Ensures safety and security of materials, supplies, and property.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of Bedford County Chart of Accounts
  • Basic math and accounting skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Maintain and update inventory records
  • Exemplary mathematical and analytical skills
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Valid Tennessee Driver's License
  • Experience in inventory control preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Successful completion of a physical, drug screen, and background check
